Hi Lori, I’m one of your friends and fans who rarely scans our local paper, but happened to today and saw your article. Good job. I agree with your friend who encourages you to step into your spotlight in social media. I looked for you on Twitter without finding you. Perhaps you are like me and have an obscure name, onabrighternote was what I looked for. See you have a fan page for Cougar Night in Canada, although couldn’t find one for On a Brighter Note. Not sure if you are aware of this…You’ll want to convert your followers to fans on fb, as you can only have 5000 friends. My friend, I know you, you’ll reach that in short order, and if you de-friend me I’ll know why!! Let us know where to find you. And, I’m available for coffee, too!!

And in response to Bruce…it helps the author because recognition means followers, which builds trust and goodwill. When we give people something of value, they learn to trust us. When we offer more value and help solve a problem for them eventually the exchange translates into a sale. This can be through any number of means, although typically it is through online products, book sales, or advertising on YouTube, Facebook, or your own website. It doesn’t matter what business you are in, you help solve a problem. Lori makes people laugh and ponder life. She solves a problem…our need to laugh. The bigger your audience, the more people you help, the more money you earn. Businesses need the flow of money to continue to exist and grow.

Great column and video Lori!
My marketing Guru Brian Solis says there is no such thing as “making” something viral.
What he means is: You have to build the base of users that share your video (or any other content) in order to make it popular.
You are producing great videos for a while now – I suggest you use Social Media networks to promote them. It’s hard to share your video through a newspaper column….
Social Media is “earned” marketing, meaning you need to build networks and connections and then place your content (aka blog posts and videos) in front of them at the right place at the right time. That also might need some trial and error.
You are on the right track though – if you produce content to make something viral it won’t. But you need to create content that your audience wants to see – in the end it’s us who want to share your content with our friends to make it viral.

Hi Lori;

I enjoyed your column today. I had a very similar experience when I froze on stage during a final presentation of an acting class. Just me in the middle of my piece completely lost on stage. Looking out at the faces I saw cringes and hands to faces, wide gaping eyes. It was funny in retrospect. I did find my way just like Daisy. The best thing wasn’t exactly conquering the feat it was knowing that even the worst thing hapening really wasn’t a big deal. Ask daisy if that makes sense. It’s so ok to mess up or forget where we are. We make too much of a deal out of trying to be perfect. It’s great when we are so not perfect and nothing bad happens. We walk away just fine! I hope Daisy got the same message as I did.

Been public speaking making an ass of myself for 6 years now at OBE meetings and it’s still nerve racking! Public singing..no no way even if alcohol induced!

public speaking and public dancing are a great joy. I feel expansive, lose all heavy, now-based senses and go to a state of freedom. Singing in public keeps me in critical mode…. what the heck was that noise as I lose pitch.
